by Mark Twain (1835-1910)

Fifty years ago, when I was a boy of fifteen and helping to inhabit a Missourian village on the banks of the Mississippi, I had a friend whose society was very dear to me because I was forbidden by my mother to partake of it. He was a gay and impudent and satirical and delightful young black man–a slave–who daily preached sermons from the top of his master’s woodpile, with me for…

Woman’s Inhumanity to Woman

We’ve never really bought into the myth of sisterhood, but this excerpt from Phyllis Chesler’s “Woman’s Inhumanity to Woman” about women’s sexist aggression toward other women is dead on.

Enjoy! :)

Love your sister as you love yourself—the quiet, daily practice of sisterhood—requires a strong and independent mind and spirit. To practice sisterhood, a woman must first love her (own) self. She must be clear about her psychological boundaries and be able to guard them well. Only then will she have the capacity to respect and not violate another woman’s boundaries.

Sexism is not only about mistrusting or disliking women. It is also about idealizing or demonizing women either as fairy godmothers or as evil stepmothers. Sexism is about expecting women to be family-like intimates. Women must learn to resist the illusion of…..

More hostility, fights, and internal chaos from The Lesma Files; a random solo anti-soy rant in between spats, so hold on to your nun habits.

Truthfully, this is a positively disgusting podcast including potty humor. Don’t listen while eating.

Enjoy! 8)

Disclaimer: Soy is especially toxic for people with Thyroid issues. (some would argue it is the cause) If a person doesn’t know they have Thyroid issues, which many don’t, because many do not have any outward or obvious symptoms, and woman-specific Thyroid issues are not mandated testing on any regular exams (even if you are dead ringer) hence…..

If anyone thinks we’re going to worry about the energy we’re using when we turn on the blow dryer while BP and friends annihilate our seas, they’re on another planet. And the LAST corporate media giants we’ll be taking instruction from are war profiteers like GE that keep dissent at bay with ownership of MSNBC, CNBC, CNBC World (Arabia, India, Asia, Europe), NBC, Bravo, USA, Telemundo, Mun 2, Sci-Fi, Oxygen, A&E, the History Channel, Military History Channel, Universal Films, Tribeca Films, iVillage, hulu.com…their partnership with Microsoft, and having nearly 100 nuclear reactors in 11 countries that all have a fatal flaw which would seep directly into the atmosphere if anything went wrong. GE-EEE! when has anything like THAT ever happened?!

GE Home Appliance Energy Use http://www.ge.com/visualization/appliances_energyuse/index.html

They’ve got to be kidding with that.

Oh, and… we won’t be running to buy Priuses to save the planet by slamming into a tree anytime soon either.

OK let’s make nice, here are…..

S.C.U.M. Manifesto

Valerie Solanas was one of the most infamous and controversial American feminists out there. Clearly she was part disturbed and part genius, but so are most people who think. However, this level of disturbance either makes you reeeeeeally funny, or veeeery dangerous with illegal weaponry.

The first time I read SCUM, it took about 2 or 3 hours to get through and I hated the end so much I wanted to fling it at the wall. Up to that point I was howling with laughter that filled the house with each turn of the page. Not that she intended to be comical. Who knows.

Does this make me as out there as the woman who shot Andy Warhol? Well yes, but every woman should read this book anyway. It’s one of the few I keep on the book shelf. I’ve read too many to keep in the house so I just give them away after I’m done, but there are a few I keep around because I know I will be referring to them again.

If you are a hostile anti-feminist, this book will prove you right, don’t do it to yourself. She promotes an all female society, which if you have known us for more than five minutes, you know we think is ridiculous. All the same, this book is a damn fun party and we like to shekidup around here.

If you are going to commit to reading it, do your eyes a favor and print it out instead of reading it on the computer screen.

S.C.U.M. Manifesto

(Society for Cutting Up Men)

by Valerie Solanas

Life in this society being, at best, an utter bore and no aspect of society being at all relevant to women, there remains to civic-minded, responsible, thrill-seeking females only to overthrow the government, eliminate the money system, institute complete automation and destroy the male sex.
