Thank you TLM for posting this! Listening to these women made me so proud. Proud to be a lesbian, a woman and proud of them. Watching the woman walk away with that jacket on was one of the most moving things I have ever seen. She risks her life, like a lot of us, but it seemed so close her chance of being so hurt or killed because of her refusal to change due to violence and horrible oppression. Her courage made some of the things I find hard in my life being an out lesbian a little less difficult. I was given courage by her and all of the other women, including the one who was murdered, to stand even taller in the face of what we can go through as lesbians. This video was one of the most moving I have ever seen. I hope on hope that the people of South Africa will begin to stand behind them. Thank you TLM

Rape is hatred. It also happens to be murder in this region because there is no question they are transmitting HIV which is something this documentary didn’t cover. Police do nothing to help. I can’t begin to imagine how these women feel.

    • Kriptziii 5:37 pm on October 17, 2010

I can’t even describe how sad I was when I finished watching it…

They don’t believe raping lesbians will correct anything anymore than we do. They just want to inflict violence. They also rape women who aren’t gay like it’s going out of style too. They just have extra hatred for open lesbians.

Let’s face it, we live in a rape culture and in some parts of the world it’s just way more obvious.

    • Brit 5:12 pm on October 17, 2010

Agree with Tina. A rapist anywhere is a rapist worthy of at least losing his eyeballs in the process :) My first choice would be murder the fucker.

All societies treat rape like it’s a “woman problem.” No, it’s not. Rape is a “man problem.” Understand your reality and be prepared to at least fight back because they are going to viciously attack you anyway. Women tend to think if they are compliant their assailant will be less brutal. Obviously wrong! If you fight back you at least have a chance in hell.

    • TinaB 5:04 pm on October 17, 2010

If I were one of these women I would never travel alone and would encourage everyone of my team mates to be armed with something because sorry but these mother fuckers would get stabbed the fuck up in the process of trying to rape. Men are stronger and women need to wise up and protect themselves against that fact.

Too bad only 6% of rapists in the U.S. ever spend a day in jail also.
