Windsor, who married her late partner of 44 years, Thea Spyer, in a 2007 ceremony in Canada, got slammed with hundreds of thousands of dollars in estate taxes because the women were not recognized as a legally wed couple.

This shows how fucked up DOMA is and how even if we get married where it’s LEGAL we’re STILL discriminated against. This is the second piece of DOMA that we know of that was struck down in federal court. The supreme court hasn’t taken any cases like this yet. But there’s one DOMA case (not this one) that has already been struck down in federal court and they expect the supreme court to accept the case in October. It’s a PIECE of DOMA that got struck down in this case and another case. It’s a big law and specific law suits deal with whatever piece is affecting them. Like this one had to do with inheritance. You can find part of a law unconstitutional and leave the rest in tact. Like this woman’s case isn’t effected by the piece that doesn’t allow gay-marriage to make your wife a citizen if she is from another country. That part of the law has no bearing on inheritance.
